ATLAS ITK Pixels

I work on the development of the ATLAS ITK pixel system for the ATLAS inner tracker (ITK) upgarde part of the ATLAS upgrade. I am interested in the development of the entire ITK Pixel system. My main focus is in the pixel development of the sensors and modules, and in the mechanical structures for the pixel endcap. The UK based activity, PUUKA is devided into two work packages, WP1 electrical and WP2 mechanical. I am in charge of the module task in WP1 and deputy of WP2.

  • Sensors

The sensor activty is split into two main sections
  • Planar sesnors.
  • In the UK were are developing high resistivity planar sensors with Micron Semiconductor Ltd.

For ATLAS I am also developing active edge sensors with Advacam in collaboration with MPI.

  • CMOS sensors
  • I am working on the developement of CMOS sensors that use drift to collect the deposited charge. This includes work in the HVCMOS collaboration, sharepoint for documents.

    Modules

The module activity is focused around the area of interconnects.
  • Flip-chip device assembly with solder bumps with Advacam
  • Backside ROIC wafer deposition to compensate for bow in thin wafers with CEA LETI
  • Indium fip-chip bonding with STFC RAL
  • Direct bonding with the Glasgow IGR group
  • Mechanics

    The mechanics activity covers

  • EDMS documents on local supports and integration
  • Functional Requirements documents
  • Thermal performace of the system
  • Electrical services via the embeded power tapes
  • Disk design and mechnical support structures
  • Module loading onto the disks
