The High Voltage Patch Panel 1 (PP0)

Objective

The objective of the PP1 is to arrange and distribute the high voltage channels to each individual Repeater Board. PP1 will be located near the Velo tank hence its input will be the 56 core 55m long cables that connect the Velo tank to PP0 located in the counting room. Each PP1 will possess 15 outputs thus capable of providing HV to 15 repeater boards.

All the connectors are made by Lemo and it is important to remember that pins that can possibly carry the high voltage are not exposed. This is the rationale behind the selection of pins and connectors that are part of the patch panel.

Implementation

  • 15 x 3pin socket EGG.1B.303.CLL (female connector) with each individual socket connected to a repeater board through a 3 core cable.
  • 1 x 51 pin SLA.H51.LLZG (male connector) (09.41.34.268.7) with male pins FFA.05.403.ZLA1 (09.41.33.210.9). This is connected to the female connector of the 51 core cable coming from PP0.
  • Wire of three different colour that interconnects the connectors and distributes each triplet. It is 24AWG spec 44 wire, rated for 600V (Farnell 134820).
  • The housing is a modified cast Iron box Farnell 587643. It has flanges that allows the box to be fasten to an structure. The modifications consists of cutaways for the body of the connectors (See attached drawing).

Shopping List

  • 7 Cast Iron boxes.
  • 105 3 pin sockets EGG.1B.303.CLL .
  • 7 51 pin socket SLA.H51.LLZG .
  • 315 male pins FFA.05.403.ZLA1 .

Progress

Six PP1 and one prototype of PP0 have been constructed and are under tests.
